As an experienced investigator, employment law attorney, and mediator, investigates employee complaints in a wide array of industries in the Dallas area (now her hometown).  Over her career, Julie Arbuckle has conducted over hundreds investigations and employee interviews, and advised clients on how to respond to various types of employee complaints. She also has mediated numerous cases to successful resolution, and has represented individuals, businesses, insureds, insurers, employers, employees, property owners, landlords, doctors, lawyers, as well as the United States and its federal agencies in State and Federal Court litigation.

Principle (2013-2023)

As a Workplace Investigator, Mediator, Arbitrator, and Evaluator, investigated employee complaints in many different types of workplaces, served as an arbitrator for the City of San Francisco, and resolved numerous litigated employment, real estate, tort, and business disputes. Representative Workplace Investigations: 

  • Investigated sexual harassment complaints by employees in the wine, financial and real estate development industries by conducting employee and witness interviews, reviewing texts, emails, personnel records, and other relevant documents with varying findings and recommendations as to whether corrective action was warranted. 
  • Investigated employee complaints of unfair treatment, discrimination, retaliation, and/or a toxic work environment, all with different results and conclusions intended to restore employee morale and/or improve the work environment. 
  • Investigated complaints against executives in the film, wine, financial and real estate development industries that ranged from mismanagement, personality conflicts, and employee favoritism to a hostile work environments.

U.S. ATTORNEY’S OFFICE, NORTHERN DISTRICT OF CALIFORNIA San Francisco, CA
Assistant U.S. Attorney (2004-2013)

As a federal prosecutor, defended and prosecuted on behalf of the United States over 100 lawsuits and investigations, including claims alleging fraud, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, personal injury, contract, malpractice, civil rights violations, real property disputes, insurance coverage issues, FOIA and APA challenges, as well as constitutional, religious, and privacy challenges.  Successfully mediated or negotiated the resolution of over 50 cases, and many investigations.  Successfully defended the United States in personal injury trials, and prepared and successfully argued numerous summary judgment motions and motions to dismiss.  Successfully argued employment and civil rights cases before the Ninth Circuit.  Took and defended over 100 depositions, including depositions of defendants, plaintiffs, expert witnesses, company executives, other employees, and eye witnesses.

Representative Cases: 

  • Successfully defended numerous federal agencies in cases alleging sexual harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and gender, race, religious, disability, and age discrimination.
  • Prosecuted health care professionals and their businesses in cases alleging health care fraud and false claims to Medicare and Medicaid, negotiating settlements that resulted in the professionals paying millions of dollars back to the federal government.
  • Successfully defended doctors and other federal employees in cases alleging medical malpractice, negligence, and personal injuries in automobile accidents.
  • Prosecuted one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world for off-label marketing and submitting false claims to Medicare and Medicaid, which resulted in the company paying $184 million dollars to the federal government.

Managed the defense of over 50 employment lawsuits from start to finish, including lawsuits alleging harassment, discrimination, wrongful termination, breach of contract, retaliation, unfair competition, battery, defamation, and race, gender, disability, religion, sexual orientation, and age discrimination.  Represented clients in several mediations and negotiated numerous settlement agreements.  Successfully defended clients at administrative trials, and prepared and successfully argued numerous summary judgment motions.  Prepared several cases for jury trials, and took and defended nearly 100 depositions.  Conducted workplace investigations and counseled clients on personnel policies, employee handbooks, workplace investigations, medical examinations and inquiries, leaves of absence, reductions in force, workplace privacy, employee discipline and termination and other employment issues.  Served on firm’s pro bono committee.
